The publishing giant TASCHEN has gifted the world with a priceless gift, a 3 volume set of our great friend Bob Mizer's classic PHYSIQUE PICTORIAL. It's a magical trip through the wonderland of the Athletic Model Guild from 1950 - 1990. The models, the stories, Tom of Finland's drawings, Bob's gossipy little symbols, the works. For historian's it's THE reference book on AMG. You'll find well known actors like Robert Conrad ("The Wild Wild West"), Gary Conway ("I was a Teenage Frankenstein"), Sammy Jackson ("No Time For Sargents") & Dennis Cole. What you won't find is the answer to the eternal question, when did they stop making guys like this.
A few things to note. The pages are not glossy. To make this affordable Taschen printed it on a bit lower non-coated grade of paper that still holds the images & text beautifully. The importance of this work mandates it be resonably priced. Three issues are missing. Volumes 1 #1, 2 # 4 & 3 #2. Quality copies of these issues didn't make it to deadline. Our friends at The Magazine in San Francisco are sending us copies so The ARCHIVE will have a complete set. We will scan these & put them up so you can start your search for them. The other things you won't find are the rarities, Bob's very early catalogs, some of which you'll see on our tribute page to Bob. The last time we spoke to Bob, a few months before his death, he said that he was at least 5 years behind in doing Physique Pictorial. Hundreds of models never made it to Physique Pictorial.
